Need advise on a 89 518
One of our other trucks is a old beater Dodge farm truck, 1989 D250 with a 318 and 518 transmission. The transmission has about 50k since a major rebuild and for the past few thousand miles would hunt between overdrive and direct when running between 40 and 50mph. I installed a new tps with no improvement.
Now it doesn't want to shift into od at all.
So, simple fix, prehaps a fluid change (not really due but ?), adjust something, I'm open for ideas. Just can't afford to spend much money on a rig that's one step removed from junk status.
Thanks, RJR

OD is engaged electricly in the A-500 & A-518, just like the late trannies. Maybe a problem with the OD Relay or elecrical connections. Perhaps a wire was broken/shorted during the last removal/install cycle? I would check all electical connectors and wires to the transmission as a start, including the ground straps!

I agree with zulusafari--check your grounds. My 91 w-150 would bang in and out of overdrive, or sometimes not go into o/d at all. I followed the main ground from the battery---it was bolted to the air pump, which was aluminum! Re-bolted to the side of the cylinder head and o/d worked perfectly from there on out. All my gauges began to read normally, as well hope this helps.
