4" exhaust - too big?
My truck is pretty much stock. I wish it weren't that way, but it probably won't be seeing big nozzles and custom turbo anytime soon.
However, it does need new exhaust. I've been thinking of going with Stan's because seems to be the most "bolt-in" of the ones I've heard of - I don't have a welder.
Is 4" ok for my truck?

I don't know anything about Stan's stuff, but your truck's like mine and I run this kit ~ http://www.dieselpro.net/productDesc.html?prod=3035
It bolted right into place with no problem. No welding involved.

The point is that if you think you'll be bombing the truck down the road, and you need an exhaust system now, then go ahead and get what you need for the bombed truck. With the low temps our exhaust plumbing sees, they last forever. It'd be a waste to buy a lesser system, just to pull it out in a year.
Oh, . . . . . . the bombing thing's addictive.

4" will work great even on a stock truck. Don't expect a massive increase in performance, but it will improve EGT, spoolup, and fuel economy a little bit. Plus it will sound better.

Ouch, OK, You can stop twisting now I'll do it! I didn't need a whole lot of arm twisting. Might be a good time to do a 16cm hotend? They're pretty cheap? How about the gov spring and maybe a fuel pin?
BC, like your BHM, when are you selling some?

If you're thinking of playing with the turbo I would recommend finding a 12cm wastegated housing and install it right before you do the exhaust. It will spool lightning fast even on a stocker and will help you make better use of the fuel you have at low rpms.
Who came up with the 16cm idea anyway? If I'd only known about the 12cm W/G when I started bombing.

4" exhaust
Bigred,
I would also suggest to go ahead with a 4" turbo back exhaust even with your truck 'as is'. Once you catch the 'bombing fever', it's like going downhill with no brakes. I am running a Stan's Headers system. For the record, Stan makes the exhaust systems for Dieselpro AND TruckPerformancePlus. The latter are his nephew and brother, respectively. Their system uses a straight through Donaldson muffler (exact same one as the big rigs) and according to Phil (Stan's brother) it outflowed a 3" straight pipe on a flowmeter. Rip Rook makes an excellent system but, you'll need to weld hangers and finish his 4" partially prefabbed downpipe; he's not jigged for it. My hardest part was removing my old exhaust. Everything went in easy and fitted nicely. Turbo whine is much more audible.
