370 injectors

Do the 370 marine injectors work on a 1st gen engine?
I am putting one in a boat and we want to make 500+ hp.

Any idea's?

Thanks,

Raf

Nope. I think the 370 guts can be swapped to 1st gen injector bodies, but you might as well just go POD's, as they flow the same/a bit more than 370's and they bolt right in to a 1st gen head. 500 hp marine application, eh? You'll be pushin the old girl pretty hard, but I've heard it's been done

Welcome to DTR!

I agree with him your better off with pod's or even custom edms. 500hp will be pretty hard on that ve especially in a boat where you would most likely be using that hp for long periods of time.

I did some research on the pump and I think it's better I look for a 6900 or 7100pump. are there any conversion kits that can be found?

Anyone ever put a 24V head on a mechanical engine?

Thanks

500 hp in a marine application will be tough..impossible IMO with a rotary pump, "maybe" with a P pump.
The issue will be EGT...a marine engine is under load all the time...no downhill runs or flats to let the engine cool.
You will need to monitor post turbo egt....as I'm assuming you will use a marine manifold (antifreeze cooled) and marine turbo (also antifreeze cooled).
Cummins specs call out for something like 850 F max for post turbo EGT...you can cheat a little and say go 900 to 950, but after that you'll be really hot.
Also marine 370s have valve rotators and some other differences which they need for their duty cycle.
What will you be using for a raw water pump? Hopefully a 1730 series that bolts in place of your power steering pump.
Also you'll need 1/2 id fuel lines for the feed and 3/8 min for return...P pumps circulate a lot of fuel.
These engines also come with fuel coolers on the return....cooled by raw water. You might want to consider having one inthe system to get all the hp you can.

thank Jleonard for the great input.

I am gettting a custom build huge water to air intercooler to cool down the charge air. Offcourse I am using before and after egt's.
Fuel, I have 2 carter 4601 pumps on a fuel rail and we are cooling the return like you mention.
I use indeed that waterpump.
I was planning on using the standard exhaust manifold with a BD turbocharger. Heat is no problem as there is no engine compartment, the engine is in "the open"

Looks like a pump conversion is needed. Are there any kits for this?

Sounds like you have most of the bases covered. Sounds like a fun project.
Are you planning on watercooled exhaust? If so I can recommend a source for a custom riser/wet elbow if you need it that made one for my Cummins repower on the trawler I had.
Best of luck.

I think I am going first with a non cooled exhaust because I want to be as soon as possible on the water. I am doing the project together with a friend who has 4 engines but all with the VE pump....

No leads on any conversion kit for the pumps? If I have to order new it's going to be expensive. I was hoping to fid some roken engines to use the gear and timing cover but it is very hard to find a broken cummins...

Is there any difference in crank, pistons and cilinder head between the first an second gen 12V?

Also I have a cracked 53 blok with vp pump, could I use the lower of the first gen and put everything of the 24 on the lower?
