The pump timing can be adjusted easily even if the pump top is on, that doesnt really matter. But, Remember when you pull the head of the pump off to collect the 2 or 3 peces of the governor setup.

if it's a play truck that you don't tow with throw the AFC lever away. You'll get full fueling as soon as the throttle hits the floor, lots of power, lots of smoke, and lots of heat. Make sure you get that probe installed and the gauge hooked up. Advance the timing when your done, it makes a difference, I've run mine against the head to keep egt's down, it helps top end too.
if it were my truck i would get a clean set of injectors larger than the intercooled ones like 190's or bigger and just turn it up.

in that vid, all i did to get the smoke was pull the afc spring out because it was set way up in pressure so i could tow.
my injectors are stock non intercooled which are about the same as 190's. i like the power it has but, theres always more to be had.
and the way mine is set up right now i can tow 12k+ and not get real hot on a 0 to 65 run probally 1100 max
