3" rear shoe/wheel cylinder install ??
3" rear shoe/wheel cylinder install ??
OK I am having a hard time locating some info, on both.
If I goto 3" rear shoes, can I then still use the Chevy rear wheel cylinders, or do I need the correct wheel cylinders shown in the "how to do" section?
I plan on doing the install soon, and want to "do it right"

When I replaced my rear drums I went from the 2-1/2" to the 3" shoes. It was nothing more than replacing the drums and shoes. I used new 2-1/2" mounting hardware with the new original type 2-1/2" drums and never changed the wheel cylinders. I have had no braking problems since the installation which was just over 2 years ago. You can reuse your 2-1/2" drums if they are good but you will need to have them turned to clean up the 1/2" lip that the 2-1/2" shoes do not come in contact with.

Yep you should already have the larger wheel cylinders and shoes. When I got mine I asked for the 1 ton cylinders and 1 ton shoes ( 3 inch). When I got mine apart I found that I already had the 3 inch shoes
I posted all of the part numbers before but I have no idea how to find it.

I have 3'' shoes. I asked for wheel cylinders for a '94 1 ton chevy P/U at NAPA and they matched the number from the tech facts. Only problem now is that I've lost the right wheel seal twice now. There's no ridge and the seal goes on just fine. Diff is not overfull either. Maybe I need a speedie sleeve for the spindle?

Have you check the vent toob? The may be pluged and pushing oil out the weekist seal or larges grove.
If the vent toob is plug it will creat a nuff pressure to make a good seal act like it bad.
I used the Dodge 1 ton dually wheel cylinders. I think that they had 1-1/8" pistons. Pretty good size. I think that the stockers are 1 inch. I'm not sure what size the chevy ones are. Probably the same. I noticed that my pedal was a little bit lower. Took some getting used to but they work really well.
spunbearing is on the right track, i looked at the chevy and dodge 1 tons, i believe this is correct, dodge smaller is 7/8th and 1 3/16th for the larger. i think the chevy ones i looked at were actually smaller bore than the dodge 1 tons.
