2nd gen wheels on a 1st gen

Bought a set of 2nd gen stock 16" chrome wheels, they're on my '91 now. Knew I would have to do some rigging to put the center caps on (Rams head with 8 simulated lug nuts) since Dodge went from 1/2 wheel studs to 9/16. Can someone make this easy by saying where to get lug nuts to hold the caps on? BTW, B&G tire in Hartselle, AL has 2 more sets of these, I paid $250 for the wheels, mounted and balanced. They look good without the caps, would look better with them.

Let me tell you. I have had mine on my truck for alomst a year now and I am going through the same thing that you are! I have a 92 D250 and bought a set of 98 Chrome rims with the Rams Head and 8 Simulated lug nuts. I have yet to find or figure out a set of lug nuts that would work to hold the center cap in place.

If you find out, please let me know! I had a guy from TDR e-mail me with a dodge part # 06034834 on a possible set of lug nuts that should work. I e-mailed him back to send me a close up picture of the lug nut to see if it's the right one. He, like you and I did the same thing, but on a 89 250.

I'll let you know when he e-mails me back with a picture and tell you either yes or no.

At one time, before my first set of alloys, I was going to install a set of 2nd gen simulators on my 93 dually. I ran into the same situation on the lug size/ center cap issue. After much searching, I found the best option would be to replace the studs with new ones that had the same shank dia. and 9/16 thread. I was going from 5/8 to 9/16, but I am sure you can do the same with 1/2 to 9/16. I finally sold the simulators and went with alloys, but still wish I would have replaced the studs, because there are many more and easily found wheels and lugnuts for 9/16 than 5/8.

Hey guys! I just got an e-mail from a guy that I talked to who has done what we are trying to do!! He set me the pics of the rims and the right lug nuts that hold on the factory dodge center caps! He has since change the rims but kept the center caps on his newer rims.

Above I had posted the part # that he gave me on the lug nuts.

Got to call dodge tomorrow to see above ordering a set for me! My truck will look sooo much better with the center caps installed!!!!

Yeah $2

Yeah, they are just over 2 dollars each. It is cheaper and easier than buying /reaplcing the studs to 9/16", however.

Thumbs up

Well....... bit the bullet and paid $74.30 for 32 of these. Caps are very snug, couldn't force them off with my bare hands. Thanks for all of your advice, this is a great forum.

My 2nd gen caps

These caps are on my 1st gen with aftermarket steel wheels 16X7 with Michelin 265/75 Load range E
Underneath

with caps

I like the looks of these caps better than the old generic crome slip in caps with chrome lug nuts

Question 2nd Gen. on 1st Gen. wheels

Did these wheels actually fit your rig. Was there no hole slop ? I tried to put a set of 2nd gen. on mine and the wheel slop in the holes was terrible. I gave the wheels back. I never did go to the hassle of changing the studs.
