2nd gen wheels on a 1st gen
2nd gen wheels on a 1st gen
I bought a set of 2nd gen wheels to put on my 1st gen. All went well until I looked at the caps and realized that I didn't have the right lug nuts. I guess in 94 they changed to a 9/16 pitch instead of the 1/2 pitch. I called dodge and they wanted $6 per nut! 32 nuts later we are talking over $200 just to fit the caps on. Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa anyone have any ideas? I know that I've seen the wheels on other first gens. Is there anyplace where I can get the nuts without getting raped without lubrication?
Someone had put later style wheels on my 92 before I bought it and I never could get them to balance out. The wheels on the first gen center on the recesses stamped into the wheels where the newer ones center on the hub and center hole on the wheel. I ended up buying six new first gen wheels from NAPA at $98 a piece.

3/4 ton will not have balancing problems, that's only a problem with duallys because Dodge was too cheap to make the wheels center on the hubs.
Have you tried an auto parts store? Most of them have those drawers of Dorman fasteners, I'm sure there are chrome lug nuts in there for less than $6 each.

I guess that what I am going to do is go buy one from the dealership so I know what I'm looking for. Then my friend that owns a tire store pointed me to 3 boxes full of nuts and said take what you want... so as soon as I know what I'm looking for I'll start digging. I'm gonna check napa too. Thanks guys. I'll let you know how it works out.

$tealership wanted $2.90 ea for the plastic snaps that hold the under hood pad in place. I bought one and went to the local h/w store and they carried auto fasterners. Got 2 for 60cents there. Dealers are a big rip off on dumb stuff like that...
