2nd gen lift pump questions, and regulator?

Well I picked up a 2nd gen lift pump for $40. Now i need to get it on. I looked through the sticky and it looks like I need to get the spacer and 2 gaskets? and then will it hook right up to my fuel lines? Or do I need to upgrade to 1/2" fuel lines? I don't really want to if I don't have to right now, this is just to get me by til i get an airdog setup with 1/2" lines and a fuel sump. But can't I just get some fittings and use the stock fuel lines for now? And what regulator is the best one to get??? I've looked around but not sure what brand, and if its rated for diesel, or what pressure. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks guys

you need the spacer, 2 gaskets and the steel fuel line that goes from the lp to the filter housing I think. BC847 posts a pic of what you need in his stickied thread. What you need for the lp plp is the same for the second gen pump.

As per this thread on CF: http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/89...e-finally.html

He got this regulator and I think it's worked well for him: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MAA-4307M/

However the regulator there is a return style so you'd have to run a line back to the tank.

Unfortunately you can't use your stock lines Blacky. You need everything listed in my thread linked above. The drawstraw fitting has an extra port on it that can be used as the regulator return line dump. The regulator I used is made by Mallory and is available at Summit racing for around $95 or so. You need it or one like it. That pump puts out way too much pressure (as I'm sure you already know) to run alone. Read through the link. I gave part numbers, prices, and sources. Any questions just shoot me an email at: ZSkibo (at) aol (dot) com.

I'd say it's not an issue if it's rated for gasoline/alky. Also, here is a list of everything I ordered from Vulcan (quantity first, rice second). Note, this does not include the pump, the fuel hose, clamps, and a few other little odds and ends I used but you get the idea and see what fittings are needed to tie into the fuel system.
Everything below came from Vulcan:
M1406 14mm metric to 08 MJIC adapter 1 7.49
FFVPU Filter to injection hose kit 1 33.99
DSI DrawStraw I 1 44.99
M1208 12mm metric to 08 MJIC adapter 1 6.89
PO168 Pushlock 1/2 x 06 JIC swivel 1 5.99
po188 08 jic swv x 1/2 PL 2 2.49
PLG06 Pipe plug 3/8 NPT 1 1.19
240468 3/8 NPT x 08 MJIC adapter 1 1.59
650066 Forged 90 deg 06 FJIC x 06 MJIC 1 2.29
M1406 14mm metric to 08 MJIC adapter 1 7.49
POE Pushlock 1/2 X 08 FJIC 90 Deg 2 6.59

So I cant get that regulator and tie the return line back into the stock return line. And get some fittings to neck it down and run my stock fuel lines??? maybe this won't be worth it after all, if I gotta go 1/2" lines, might as well go with the Airdog setup.

Yeah, you can but you won't get the full benefits.

Blacky you can and you can't. You most certainly can tie your tank feed into the lift pump and you'll most likely still see some increased benefit versus your stock setup. The return side is going to be a hassle in that you'll need a check valve to prevent backfilling the injection pump. I think. There is no data out there to suggest what will happen as everyone usually just runs a separate return from the regulator. The good news is that is a spare bung in the top of the tank that you could just tie a bulkhead fitting into and dump the regulator return there. Honestly though I'd just save a few extra bucks up and do the fuel line upgrade properly. You'll save yourself time and money in the long run by not purchasing fittings that you ultimately don't need and working on your fuel system twice.

but this is just temporary, as long as i get some better fuel pressure than my stock pump so i don't burn my VE up. This should just be for a few months, then hopefully I'll go with an Airdog. Thanks, I think i'll try it
