2 stroke oil question
FWIW
I bought the Pennz from Wally world. They had both, and there wasn't a significant price difference... a couple of dollars.
So next time, after I run out of the Penz, I'll try the blue bottle

I was at the fuel station, and a guy who worked there saw me put the oil in the tank, as I was filling it up.
He commented how "smart I was" as the first genz diesels were the best trucks on the planet and that the new fuels were detrimental to their longevity. He couldn't believe that I was actually thinking "outside the box"...
Oh, well.

I always used auto/trans ., fluid.......now use 2 stroke, engin ,quite, most assurdly get better MPG,w/ either as a additive. But auto/ trans fluid now synth., so i switched ,because of this forum.

I'm not on here much and I'm no engineer but this is something I've got real world experience with.
First off "ashless" is a misnomer !
Many years ago two stroke oil was straight 20wt non-detergent. Then the outboard manufacturers assoc. (the BIA) decided that they wanted better oil. Fowled plugs, sticking rings and carboned-up pistons (ash) didn't make for happy customers. so they had better oils developed that produced less ash and called them "ashless"
Time past and the BIA certification was replaced by the now common "TC-W". As time passed just like with all oils the specs changed and now we have TC-W3.
As for the difference between GP and outboard oils, GP is for air cooled engines (run hotter) and - well of course OB is for boats. It use to be if you use GP in your boat you void the warranty. Of course that was back in the days of BIA oils.
On that note - the newer 2 stroke, oil injection boat motors that run as lean as 100 to 1 oil ratios for smog rules, have been known to die running on wally world oil a few years back. There was some talk about OB manufacturers not warranting motors running Wally's junk. Don't believe me ? Go ask your local boat dealer.
Perhaps Wally's has improved their product since?
As for ATF - that was a trick used buy Ol' timers back when it was mostly light oils with few additives. Think of it as 10wt with marvel mixed in. They also used it to un-stick rings and frozen engines as well as 'upper cylinder lubricant". However - newer ATF has extreme pressure and many other additives that don't burn cleanly. Thus not a good choice for regular use in fuel.
Keep in mind that any added lubricant will extend the life of your engine. Anything with moving parts weather it's injectors or pumps or even you pistons (top rings) will last longer with a little extra lube in the fuel.
Waste motor oils has acids and dirt in it so use that at your own risk but most anything else is good to go !
