1st Gen Valve Cover Gaskets
So I call up my local Dodge to see what the price is on a set of Valve cover gasket for my 91. I am talking with the guy and he says that he cant lookup Cummins part numbers, so he cross referenced and gave me the chrysler numbers. He said they are no long in stock and cant be ordered.
I called up my closest Cummins dealer and ask just out of curiousity what the price would be for them to adjust my valves. He said it makes a difference on whether it is intercooled or not. I said mine is IC and he said 150+ gaskets. I said that is not too bad. I asked if he could transfer me to parts so I could have them look up the part numbers. I got transferred to LOCAL DODGE. ***!
So needless to say I still have no idea where to get these gray valve cover gasket for my truck. P/N 3930906(Valve Cover Gaskets) or P/N 3928406(Valve Cover Bolt O-Ring)
Any ideas?

I got a set from Cummins Central Power Omaha, NE. (402) 551-7678. Any Cummins shop can order and/or should stock them.
The 6 gaskets was like $36. All 12v's use the same gasket AFAIK.

So the grey ones are the best, right ???
What other colors are there, listed in decreasing order of preferrence please ??
These gaskets are re-usable; how does one know that new ones are necessary ??
Thanks.

I've only seen gray and black. The gray ones are great, they stay pliable and can be re-used many times. The black ones (including Fel-Pro's) don't reseal well unless they are only a couple months old.
You know you need new ones when the old ones leak.
If you have black gaskets and they aren't almost new, just replace them if you have to pull the rocker covers for some reason. If you have gray ones, unless they are cut/torn/cracked or hard, they will work fine.

If you have a case dealer close by - you can also give them that number or if you want to sound like you really know your stuff - tell them you need 6 of J930906.
