1st Gen Steering Fix
1st Gen Steering Fix
Haven't been on the forum for quite a while but wanted to share this. I use my '93 2WD once a year to travel to AZ and NV for several weeks. While in Phoenix I decided to swap my old GearVendors unit for a rebuild exchange. While waiting I decided to fix the front end wandering problem. Got a re-man steering gear from Napa for $155 and discovered the lower steering shaft u-joint was shot. New one was not to be had anywhere and discontinued by Chrysler. Ended up at So-Cal speed shop in Phoenix and they fixed me right up. New u-joint with the proper diameter and splines, a length of D-rod and a new flex joint that accepted the d-rod. Only used half of the flex joint. Not cheap, about $175 for all but the Dodge steers like brand new now. I have pictures. Don't have any place to host them and am not sure if I can insert them in a post like this one. If so havn't figured it out yet. BTW, GearVendors came through with a new unit exchange for $950 plus freight ($70) and I had it in in two hours. Made the trip home to Idaho much nicer pulling the fifth wheel in overdrive.
