You got a NON I/Ced grille to fit over a 2nd gen intercooler?
How much trimming of the back side of the grille did it take?
I usually see people use the later 1st gen grilles as they have more room for the 2nd Gen. I/C.
They still have to trim them down pretty good to fit over, I assumed the earlier grille would be really tight.

it took quite a bit of trimming and was a pain in the ***. i think i cut somewhere around 1" to 1.5" to get it to fit right. one of the things that sucks is you lose the grid that kinda protects the radiator and such so thats half the reason why i put the wire mesh in there also to protect it and for looks. i was gunna paint it black and they spray all the trim on the grill and head light bezels silver or something so it would look like factory put i didnt feel like taping all that off lol. i also like how it keeps the non i/c look cuz without asking me or me telling no one would know i put the i/c in there until i popped the hood.

Well of course with your "modified knuder valve, reversed reciprocating dingle arm adjusted, High volume flux capacitor, upgraded whirligig" you must have a lot more room to work with....

That is good to know the '89-'90 grille will fit over a 2nd gen intercooler, as I like the older aluminum grille.
I am just putting an EGT gauge on my '85 white crew, then will follow with a Denny T Stage 1, and a NON I/Ced crossover tube from CoolerTubz.

My plan was to intercool it only if/when heat became a problem.
I rarely pull my trailer with it as that is what my '01 does.

I have all the parts for a 2nd gen intercooler swap using stock 2nd gen intercooler tubes and boots [as per the sticky using a NON I/Ced core support].
If I did that I would like to stay with the older grill as I am so used to seeing my truck with that style grille on it for the last 9 years.
I even re-used my '85 grille on the '89 core support.
The headlights sit a little low in the grille head light bucket, but you have to know what your looking at the pick it up.
I am still debating using the '89 grille on it or not..

I went through this entire thread Friday night; what a bunch of great trucks! Really nice to see so many out there. And the old club cab projects are just fantastic!

I do not have a diesel ('93 ext cab 8' bed w/ 5.9 gasser), but I have a question a few of you might be able to answer or help with. I noticed 5 or 6 really nice rides that had a fiberglass cap/topper. I looked just about everywhere I could think of for a fiberglass topper for my '93 long bed. but all the manufacturers are telling me they no longer make them. Anyone here have a line on a current manufacturer? I'd love to get one for my truck for hunting season.

Thank you,

Joe Cruse

Does it HAVE to be IN a first gen? I don't think I've posted pics of the actual truck on here yet. I can't remember

When I bought it she had a 97 180hp pump motor in her. The hg went and head turned out to be junk so I rebuilt and threw my late model 91 ve motor in there.
