1st gen family Which donor truck should I go with

I have a choice of trucks right now that I can get to do my conversion I was hoping you all that have done them can help me out. Both truck choices comes with 2 cabs. 1 is a 1 ton 4wd short bed but the bed and cab are junk the other is a 1 ton 2wd 8' bed. Both are rollers with a complete drive train but I am going to be giving the drive trains back to the guy I am buying them from. My plan is to take my drivetrain from my 89 W350 and put it into one of them. The 2wd needs the frame repaired but comes with a good frame rail and the front sheet metal is decent. The other on is all there but really the only good part is the frame. If I do the 8' bed truck I can use my bed and other stuff but need to convert it to 4wd and fix the frame ( not a big deal to me) and if I get the 6' bed truck I am going to have to find a bed. My question is what would be better to have a 8' bed 4wd 4dr 1st gen cummins or a 6' bed 4wd 1st gen cummins. I added a pole to help with the decision.

Thanks

How close to Wal-Mart do you want to be able to park?

Seriously it comes down to maneuverability vs. bed space. Which is more important to you?

If it was me I'd go with the short bed.

I also have to concider the usage point. Will I get enough out of a short bed to make it practical.

I prefer a longbox, I don't think crew shortys look proportioned right and I like the space of a long box.

I think CREW shortbeds look 10x better and a are cooler....but CREW longbeds come in handy....

6ft. is alot as long as you don't hog it up with some giant box in the front (or get an over the rails type of box with spacer under it.)

drive a 90's ford CREW CAB longbed for a day and i bet you'll say neverrrr again.

I think it all depends on what your going to use the truck for. If it is your only truck I would go with a 8ft bed. I hate losing 6 inches of bed space because of my stacks so i would really hate losing 2 feet. Plywood and drywall fit so much nicer in a 8ft bed and the extra 2 feet allows me to carry just that much more stuff.

I drive firetrucks on a regular basis and used to drive a kodiac rollback for a living. Driving a truck that size doesn't bother me.

Oh well in that case do the longbed... Body work sucks so i'd get the one that will require the least body work..IMO

LOL my friend has a 92 Crew cab longbed F350 w/7.3 and the principal makes him park in the corner of the lot so he doesn't have to take up 2 spots out in the middle....it gets 13 mpg empty and 13 towing he always says

I have a tool box and stacks, and i might as well have a 6 foot bed. I would NOT be able to have a 6 foot bed with stacks and a tool box. I don't know what you plan on putting back there, but you are already going crew, so go big or go home. lol
