Ok,I bought my club cab in Dec. and love it.
1993 w250d 5speed 4x4,no options.
I've been watching a crew cab truck I saw parked for close to 6years now.I saw recently they've put a For Sale sign on the property.I just went and talked to the elderly gentleman to see if I could look at the truck.
Turns out it's a 10/75 3/4ton 2wd long box.The ONLY rust is the floor boards and a little on the box.
I'm thinkin I sould put the cab on my frame with my good sheet metal front end and shorten my box.
Who's done it and what was the biggest issues?

The easiest thing for you to do is to swap out the drive train and the front sheet metal. If you look at your frame it humps up at or near the end of the cab, that will make fitting the crew on your frame more difficult.

It may end up I'll hade a relativly rust free cab for sale....we'll see.

Only thing about that is that you'll be going to a weaker frame. Sounds like a fun project either way.

LOL....my g\f thinks the same thing....she gives me the look when i mention another project....except i mention building a drag car with my brother and she liked the idea...anyways...If i were i'd swap the cummins in the crewcab.would be the easiest.and you could always fully box your frame if your afraid of its weakness..........or you could lenghten your frame on your truck its just alot more work...

 

I just uploaded a pic to my member photos of a standard cab standard box that is now a crew with a shortshort box in case you were wondering what yours would look like. I will post it tomorrow after it is approved.

 

I think this is what the crew cab would look like on a std cab/std bed frame (not my truck, just a pic I found somewheres).

I wonder is a 3" body lift would help get the cab over the frame hump?

 

just visited a local here who has a crewcab body on a 93 frame that he had stretched . looked very nice other than the hump in frame is wrong causing you to make a channel in the floor for frame to sit correct. i think he did a body lift to help issue then ran a flatbed . will try to get some pics next time i am there. just measured my 78 ccab frame at the front of the rear leaf spring is 7 inch channel my 93 at the same spot is 8 inches and the 91 donor is 6 inches. i am thinking boxing will do wonders.

 

Ok,so I went back over there yesterday after work.
According to the owner,the ladder rack is worth more than the truck.He wants $500 and take the whole lot.
I think I'll just throw that money at my '61 ****** Forward Control.

 

I was looking at an 85 Crewcab long bed dually once that was low miles. The frame is HUGE! I also conferred with Terry from Chrysler and he said the Crew Cab frame is actually stronger/as strong as ours. ... The frame rail height was huge.
Needless to say, you won't be losing much frame strength going to a crewcab dually one ton long box.
