That's exactly why I do it!
that alys works for me. That is when my projects move under their own power.

Years ago when I put the Buick 231 in my 42 ****** jeep we took it around the block(a mile loop) a couple times with no front sheet metal. Some of the neighbors thought it was pretty cool.

I shipped out my RR steering gear to Chip at Power Steering Service. I drilled out the holes for 9/16 bolts in the steering gear cradle and frame brace bracket. I also sand blasted and painted the power steering cradle, Pitman arm, and PS frame brace bracket.

Let me know how that all goes with Chip, as I have found the used RR box I wanted with the 13/16 spline size.
I came off a '77 Ramcharger and is the variable ratio box.
I now have all the parts other than the lines, that I would need for the swap.
I would like to get the box rebuilt before I install it.
I have read some good post on Chip here on DTR.
My lifted White crew cab would love me to dial in the steering on it.

Kinda like steering it verses herding it.

Why do you want the 13/16?
The 3/4 x 30 is the jeep shaft size.
Variable ratio was only put on camaros (a lite weight car) that know of.
Why would anybody what a VRSG on a heavy 4X4 all the VR is only good of is cruzing parking lots.

redhead has 3/4 x 30s on the shelf ready to ship.

Chip is a idiot.

There are not too many parking lot around me, as I live in the woods.
I heard from a very reliable source that the '77 RCs came with the variable box and the 13/16 size.
This is supposed to make them less twitchy at highway speeds.
I am thinking if this is true, that would be the box for my lifted truck with 37s on it.
If not I have 3 other 3/4 R.R. boxes in my shop, I have collected over the years.

I am basically copying what NJTman did. It seemed to work for him. I spoke to Chip for about half an hour on phone before I shipped my steering gear to him. He sounded legit on phone.

So you sent him a SAE SG that you could to to any auto parts store and get new lines.

NJT got his box back with metric line threads NO Store bought lines. He had to make his own.

3 months to build a SG ok now your broke down 2000miles for home will he ship you a replacement over night. NO

Redhead has them on the shelf SAE and they can send me a replacement overnite If needed.

I'm planning on converting to Hydroboost (early 90's GM) and bought the lines to go with it which are metric thread. I would have to get custom lines made if I kept the steering gear SAE threads.
Is there any reason, other than turn around time, that you think Chip is an idiot?

You will need custom line work to put both a RRSG and a HB on line. END OF STORY.

Chimp is supposed to be a SG rebuilder LOAF. Chimp told NJTman to use a borgeskum steering shaft in lew of the jeep/chevy shaft.

NO respectable SG rebuilder would ever tell a person to use a borgeskum.

Redhead & Lee steering both very respectable builders do not recommend the use of a borgeskum.

His turn around time is beyond maybe if he would stay off the phone ear stroking . You talked to him for 30mins thats 30 mins that he could be working on the gearbox thats on the bench. now another call 30 mins stroking 4 more calls 30mins stroking each. Nothing gets done while stroking!

Thats just the tiny ity bity tip of the Massive Iceberg why I know chimp is a idiot.

Truth be told Id rather have and got more trust in a rebuilt autozone SG, rebuilt by a pregnant 16yearold in 3rd world country than chimp box.

Only on the line that runs from the HB to the steering gear. That said I am planning on using Aeroquip high pressure hose and reusable fittings.
And for the PITA pressure port The plan is cut the lower 90* off a stock 72-75 pressure hose and braze a AN fitting on that.

Don't hold back...Let it all out!!
If I was in a rush for it I may have gone a different route. The Borgeson shaft didn't come up but I have half of the parts for for the Jeep/Chevy shaft anyway. I thought about the need for a custom line. There is a decent local hose place that is pretty reasonable. I'll have them make 2 for me and keep one in my truck. Thanks for your input though. You brought up some points to ponder.
