1989 CTD to buy
considering purchasing this truck. Automatic with dump body. With 38K miles. Frame, dump body and plow and plow frame work sandblasted and repainted. Truck looks outstanding.
Question...what motor is in there? What are the "go fast tricks" for this year truck. It will be primarily used for yard work but will drive it to the grocery store too.
I always here about the "star wheel" and "turning the pump up". KDP? I love the way my 01 sounds with the 4" straight exhaust. Will be doing similar to this one too. Maybe go 5".
Going to look at this tomorrow.
Thanks for reading.

89's are non ic trucks and they have a little bit of a larger injector from stock. There is allot that can be done with any first gen as far as pump tuning. Take a look at the sticky it will tell you most of all the little sectrets that everyone has found and shared. The turbo on the non ic trucks are a little restrictive but the compressor upgrades are cheap. I say if its the right price go for it.

The engine is a 12 valve 5.9 with a rotary (VE) injection pump, as Ryan said it's not intercooled but it is turbocharged. The non-intercooled trucks really come alive with minor pump tweaks.
KDP is a concern on these trucks, as are the bolts that hold the timing case to the engine.
They are a lot of fun to play with because you can get so much out of them for free or close to it. If you feel like the price is good, buy it.

Thats a nice truck, I saw it recently and wished I were in a position to buy it.There is a guy by me that gets that price range for old municipal trucks like that, and they aren't as nice. I would give him $7k for it.
