14mm non W/G housing?

I was doing some searching, and I want to drop from the 18mm housing to a smaller one. I saw that the 14cm is offered as a non-gated housing, along with the 16cm. Would the 14cm be better than the 16cm. I dont want to spring for the WG model...yet. Thanks

I think the 14 non W/G will be too constrictive at hiway speeds. I would recomend the 16 if you thravel at a good rate of speed often. I have not seen a decrease in mpg but a huge increase in off the line and goofing around.

Someone with more knowledge will chime in I'm sure,
Michael

Depends on what you plan on for mods. I'm running a 12cm w/g right now but the w/g is basically disabled and I only see about 28lbs of boost. If you don't plan on adding bigger injectors ever you would be fine with a 14cm non/w/g otherwise get a 16cm. However going from a 18cm to a 16cm isn't going to make a huge SOP difference. If you wanted to try something smaller try a 12cm see how you like it since you can find these about a dime a dozen. You can find one of these on ebay or in the classifieds here for much cheaper than a new 16cm will cost you. And you can always use the w/g if you start building too much boost.

Fill in your sig so we know what you have.

The 12 cm is awesome on a truck with stock injectors. Plus they are cheap (or even free). I'd go with a 12 cm wastegated before I'd spend at more than double the money on a 14 cm non-gated.

Fuel economy only becomes an issue if you spend most of your time over 2000 RPM. Below that the smaller housings do better.

Is there a MODTR chapter? Ask around there. I got the free 12 cm housing that started my downward spiral into madness from a fellow DTR member.

Yep I have a 12cm Non-WG housing on mine as well. Works beter than the 16cm I had on before. My pump is maxed with a high RPM gov spring but am still running stock injectors.

I would be happy with any free exhaust housing to replace my 21cm that everyone is so fond of.

I have a complete turbo with a non w 14 on it. It spooled quickly but killed my top end. If you put a gov spring in and hotter nozzles I would stay with a 16.
I now have a low milage spare turbo with a 14 on it After the 14 is when I went to the hybrid from Hytech turbo with a 16 and an HX40 compressor wheel

I agree with frostie....go for the 16cm and do some tuning on your pump to tweak the spoolup on the turbo.
The 14cmNG I ran was a rocket to spool but it choked like a school girl on her first date when i pushed it hard at the upper end.....
