Not sure if this is correct thread to post this, but since it’s for my old first gen engine....
I had been looking for an engine stand but the prices they want for these things is astronomical and def not anywhere in my price range. So decided to get creative and do it myself. It’s not complete yet, but wanted to share and see what ya’ll thought.
Went down to HF and got 2 of the 2000lb engine stands for $107.00 each.
Got some 1-1/2” x 3” x 1/8” rectangular tubing and squared the two stands up so the heads were about 30” apart. (That’s the measurement I figure I need from mount to mount on engine)
welded up the center pieces to go where legs usually go and going to drill holes so they attach just like the legs do.
Going to put a brace in the middle with a wheel....
Have some 1/2” thick angle iron that I want to make the pieces for engine mounts. Maybe weld some gussets somewhere?
That’s as far as we got on it last nite, but will post more as I go. Chime in with any thoughts please!
I have just a single Horrible Fright stand. It hasn't failed yet, but I don't rotate the engine any farther than 90 degrees with the head on and then I have the hoist attached to it for safety. Yours looks like a good plan, I'll be watching.
Since the heads of the stands are angled I'm assuming you have plans to straighten them out some how? Otherwise bolting the engine to the stands is not going to work.

Got something planned for that part... involves some very large thickness angle iron pieces. It will be very simple. Hang tight...
I'm confused as to how the engine will be mounted and oriented.

The way I understand his concept is that he is going to mount plates to the factory engine mounts on the block. Then these plates will mount to the two stands as if it was in the frame of the truck.

Got it, but how do you then rotate the engine ? front to back, vs longitudinally ? that seems a bit scary to me.
