10-30w oil in the cummins?
i use all kinds of brands from the worst to the best, whatever is on sale.... and good wix filters... i just suggest using a diesel rated oil since the price jump isint that much.. 5w40 15w40 !! good luck

Yea, CD oil. These engines were designed conservatively. I think you'll be fine with almost any oil. Diesel oils can dispearse a greater amount of soot.
The big change- especially using synthetics is in the additive package. Older forumulas had zinc which prevented scuffing damage with metal on metal contact. The ZDDP package isn't very effective until the OIL gets up to operating temp. Using a thermocouple down the dipstick and going for a drive- that's about 3X longer than coolant up to temp.
So for high-power runs, make sure the engine has been warm for 15-20 minutes to mimize wear. Synthetics seem to rely more on base oil as in regular use, film failure is rare.
