$40 low oil pressure fix

NAPA/Echlin part OP6670- oil pressure sending unit
NAPA/Evercraft 776-9049- 1 1/16 oil pressure sending unit socket for newer GM and Chrysler models

Local NAPA had the sending unit on the shelf. Could probably use a flat wrench to turn it in the block. A regular deep socket isn't deep enough for the sending unit. You can turn this one with a 1/2 inch ratchet or a 1 1/8 wrench.

I am now showing more pressure just off idle than I had at speed with the old sending unit.

Mine looks the same way but the low pressure dummy light doesn't illuminate. It doesn't take much for it though. If I were to engage the clutch without any throttle, the light would come on for a second until engine RPMs came back up. I'm hoping that it's just the pressure switch and not actual oil pressure dropping that much. I really do need to throw a pressure gauge on the system soon to make sure I'm within specs!

I don't know why the s/u would go bad, it only shows 254,000, and the odometer reads slow. For the money I'd get a new sending unit while you're at it. I was going to get some pipe fitting and a mechanical gauge and just plumb it in on the side of the block beside the s/u but decided to screw this in and see what happened. My luck it's probably metric threads anyhow.

The senders plug up from the soot in the oil. Not just Dodge, but my old Ferd did it too. Seems to be happening around the 200K mark on the odo.

I wonder if a can of carb cleaner would free it up? Carb cleaner works great on removing gummy soot from my oil furnace burner insulators and nozzle holder whenever I service it.

my other ones wasn't just on a diesel, my breeze went through two of them, my intrepid is leaking and will kick the dummy light on, both of our dakotas would do the same thing and then i think our 3 diesels done it, Ours would leak through the connector also.

Glad it worked for you too. Same thing had happened on my 91 and I was concerned about failing oil pump...but not so.

Mine wasn't leaking, just figured I'd see if I really needed to go into the bottom end yet. And that if I did need an oil pump or bearings the sender would still be good.

x2 on this fix cept my oil light wasn't going on and the gauge was all the way to the left intermittantly. After the new sensor went in it always stays in the mark furthest to the right in the "OK" zone.

I guess on the N14's it's common for the oil to start to blow out through the end of the timing sensor like it does on these.

There must be some other machines that use the same opsu as these, because NAPA actually had one on the shelf.
