Steering box mounting bracket.

Well last might my mounting bracket broke again. So I called the dealer and they had 15 in the warehouse and i will be getting a new one tomorrow.

So here is the part number: This bracket is only used on 4x4's

52037876 price is $20.63 Not too bad for a dealer part!!

Wanna, could you put this in the 1st gen faq's?

Also asked about the extra frame brace that they supposedly came out with for the ram chargers and he didn't have any record of it. So thats too bad.

I just have the 2.5" skyjacker front springs, so not really a huge lift.

The plate broke on me a couple years ago and I welded it at that time, but it was just the front ear that broke. I looked this time and at least the lower ear broke and i'm guessing the front ear broke again.

It was snowing and dark so I didn't really get a good look while I was putting a ratchet strap around the frame to temporarily hold it to get home.

Called the dealer today, and they cannot get this part anymore.

Don't know if this is the brace for the steering you are looking for but here is a place that says they have them. Never tried to order one so hope they do if this is it.

Nope, talking about the one that goes on the other side of the frame, from the steering box to the frame.

I completely understand your frustration, and this is the reason why I switched to the reverse rotation steering gear. I'll never be dealing with this issue again.

BTW, there are a few guys here who have them saved. Maybe someone will bone up and sell you one of theirs. I picked a few up in the junkyards in my travels, but after switching, I gave them away.

Good luck. Local boneyards should have them, as they were on any 1st gen 4x4, or even gassers and ramchargers. They all will work, but you might have to enlarge the mounting holes as the early versions were 1/2" bolts, while the later years were 9/16. Takes about 5 minutes to do...

Cool, thanks. I may reinforce and weld the one that I have if I can't find one. I ordered an aftermarket steering brace as well.

If you're really good at welding, I may have a suggestion for you.

Mount the plate (by itself) to the truck frame. You will see that "gap" behind the plate. If you can "fill" the gap behind it with some type of standoffs that butt up against the frame, and prevent the micro minimal twisting that the original one has to be going through, you could eliminate future breakage.

The problem is the 3 point mounting of these plates, in which no substantial amount of metal touches the frame, other than the 3 flats that bolt to the frame. Truly stupid design. Nothing to prevent twisting and eventual breakage of the flimsy bracket.

At least with a few "studs" or other forms of metal actually touching the frame in the back, you could at minimal stiffen it up.

That's more or less what I was thinking. I'll be sure to take pics and post what I come up with.

No, his plate is for stiffening the frame section when going to crossover steering. Crossover mounts the box in a different place on the frame.

I appreciate it. I bet the shipping would kill me though. I already have the stiffener bracket. I am a good welder, so fixing the old one won't be a problem.
