who has done it?
Just out of curiousity..... who has actually burned a hole in a piston or something else serious due to high egt's? what were your egt's at the time, how long were they there, and what the heck were you doing?
Here's one that was actually driven in, running very badly.
It was a 5.9 in a motorhome, no gauges, only mods were wastegate blocked, a stock plate pushed all the way forward, AFC and star wheel all the way forward.
Engine started crapping out about halfway up a 30 mile 6% grade.
I didn't work on it, more than I wanted to take on. Cummins did the rebuild and said the reason for failure was the gov arm
not adjusted correctly (if at all) and stuck under the plate.
