Best way to troubleshoot the head and valvetrain.

Anyone know the best way to troubleshoot the head and valvetrain,as far as valves go they have been adjusted, looking to check for something wrong on the head, bent pushrod tube or rocker problems or whatever else could be wrong.

Symtoms im having are rough idle and white smoke on takeoff. I have a straight piped exhaust and it sounds real "lopey" and i have listen to two other 12v's with straight pipe and mine has a definate lope.

Any suggestions
Dave

You could turn the engine over with the valve covers removed and have a look at the valvetrain for obvious problems. Otherwise the best way to check for bent pushrods is to take them out and roll each one on a flat surface to check for straightness.

Timing or bad injector or injectors...Start by checking the injectors then the timing

I should have probably posted this first off, its not timing, timing was checked and rechecked not to long ago, its set at 17*. Injectors are brand new, problem still exist. Would a bent push tube cause the puff of white smoke?

And what kind of time would you expect it to take to pull the push tubes and set the valve clearances? Whats the easiest way to go about this? Im looking at the FSM, and it shows removing some head bolts in this process.
Any input?

Does this sound to you like bent pushrod/pushtubes? Id hate to tear into the head for nothing, if it doesnt sound like it could be the source. My valves have been adjusted since this problem started and had no effect of it.
