What's Your Fuel Filter Interval?

'95 12v auto 4x4, 208,000 miles.

Changed out my fuel filter last fall after experiencing delivery symptoms, and it completely solved my choppy/low power issues. Used a Wix. Started getting similar symptoms recently (a little jolt every few seconds at 75mph, died when stopped but started again and would run without high fuel demand) so I changed it out again. How often do y'all change fuel filter? I only put on around 4000 miles since the last change, so it seems a bit premature.

I have run some biodiesel in warmer weather, but only a small amount as a lubricity enhancer. Only used powerservice for the winter, no biodiesel.

Thanks in advance!

I go by my fuel pressure gauge.
When the highway cruising pressure drops 4 psi I change it.
12 valve, this is a drop from 32 to 28 psi.
Usually go 40-50k miles.
Fuel pressure gauge will pay for itself by just eliminating one needless filter change, every diesel engine should have one.
Going by mileage is nothing but a guessing game. One dirty tank of fuel can clog the filter in ten miles.
On the other end of the spectrum I've run into two filters that came with the truck when new, had over 100k and were still fine.
It depends entirely on where you pump your fuel.

infidel is correct this is the very best way. the filter filters better the dirtier it gets and most are throwing them away about the time they start to clean better.

You might have some crap in your tank that got stirred up, or a bad tank of gas... I change my filter about once a year, using a Wix or Fleetguard.

I have two, one on the block (stock) gets changed about every 20k and the aftermarket one gets changed about every 10k or when I lose pressure. my pressure is usually 20 to 27 psi

I change my oil and fuel filter at the same time ... every 5,000 miles.

They are cheap and it is cheap insurance
