What do you think
First Id like to say hello and this site is such a useful tool..
My Question :
I just bought a 96 Dually. I never had much experience with diesels except driving them on the farms i have worked on. I am however a mopar nut so of course i bought a cummins.... This truck will be used as a truck, but i also am interested in giving it alil more... Right now i just want to start out with the relitivley cheap and easy upgrades since i have limited knowledge of diesels. The problem is it is so hard to find thee throughout this forum.. I know im gonna get flamed and everyone will say search but truth be told i hate computers and would rather be working on my projects then reading how to..... So if anyone has good advice on where to start i would greatly appreciate it what parts to look for and what gains i will get
Thanks so much for your time sorry it is so long

Get at least a boost and egt gauge before you modify anything!
let me give you a little direction on your search... the first 2 are free and the second one is cheap.
fuel plate modification: (grind and slide it forward) It is located under the housing under the intake horn with a big allen plug on the top. The fuel plate itself is under the housing held in by 2 flat head screws. grind a profile (100 is very common, flat plate and ramps out at the bottom) and slide it forward. At the same time get a boost elbow or pinch off the wastegate line so you can build more boost, dont go over 35psi.
*If you have an auto tranny this modification can slip your tranny*
the starwheel adjustment: is removing the allen plug on the housing you removed to get to the fuel plate and turning the star wheel toward the passenger side with a small flat head screwdriver. This adjusts the pre boost fueling which results in faster throttle response and possibly a puff of smoke upon hard acceleration. You can also move the housing toward the front of the engine to get more fuel out of it.
a govenor spring kit: you CAN do it with washers but it is easiest to buy a 3k or 4k gsk (I prefer the 4k kit) and this will allow the pump to fuel harder when the rpms increase instead of it being governed at a low rpm from the factory. dont spin the engine past 3200rpm without valve springs.

Get gauges then read this Turning Up a P-Pump
