What brand of oil should i use in my 12 V Cummins. Like i said i'm new to the whole diesel thing so i don't know what a good oil is to use in it. In my gas truck. A 98 Ram shortbed 360 i use Mobil 1 full synthetic. What does everyone recommend??

 

You will get as many recommendations as there are brands of oil...as long as it has a diesel rating and you can buy it in your area it should work well...synthetic would be a good choice over dyno oils...try a search you will find many posts about oil

 

There are quite a few brands out there, Shell Rotella T, Mobil Delvac, Pennzoil Heavy Duty are three commonly available brands both available in synthetic and hydrocracked base stock. Most importantly though, whichever brand you use, make sure it's rated API CH-4 or API CI-4. You shouldn't use any API "S" rated oils. These are intended for gasoline engines and don't have the soot tolerance that "C" classed oils have. 15W40 is the weight you want. BTW, if you like the Mobil 1 products, as do I, you might want to check out Mobil Delvac 1.

Valvoline is out with a full synthetic in Premium blue. When my stock of premium blue 2000 runs out, I'll switch.<br><br>Bill

 

On my last oil change I chose 15w-40 Amsoil. I read nothing but good and research supports it too. I was lucky enough to buy at a local Auto chain for about $18.00 per gallon. I took a trip to Montana a couple of days after the oil change and found temps of 5* in the am. Cold starts were not a problem. ;D<br><br>TJ
