Question waste gate dump ?

Hey guys , got another project i wanna get some input on ! Since i fixed my TPS , I'm not really impressed with the wastegate. I had some guys tell me to clamp it off , but don't know how ! Every time the TC locks up , it dumps ALL of my boost ! Also sounds like the gate doesn't close an start building boost back for about 5-10 seconds. Blocking off the WG have any possibles for damage, or can I disable it and keep the boost up for building speed ? Early thanks for some help, cause this thing really slows the truck down trying to get into traffic !!

It shouldn't ever "dump" all of the boost on a 12v, as it's not computer controlled. When you hit lockup, the engine RPM goes down and along with it the VE of the engine, or the amount of air and exhaust gas that's going through it. If you have good rpm and boost before lockup, then no boost or rpm after, then the wastegat sounds like it may be sticking open and not wanting to close. Look for any bind in the linkage. You can pull the flapper from the WG arm and make sure it moves back and forth all the way easy.

Could you have boost leaks? Pre turbo exhaust leaks? It will cause you not to make boost at lower rpms.

Other than that, I'm out of ideas other than pulling the exhaust or turbo and checking the seal of the gate flapper...

If you clamp the WG shut, you will have more boost in all ranges, low rpm, highe rpm, low or high load, etc.(as long as you have the fuel and VE to make the boost) You may get enough at low rpm, but too much at high rpm. It may not be the best answer and may not be what you need, seing as you have no fuel mods at all.

As long as you don't have a lot of fueling the stock turbo won't get out of it's design range.
Don't exceed 35 psi boost and you'll be fine with the hose clamped off.
Better yet remove the hose from the WG and stuff a 1/4" bolt in and clamp it.

On stock fuel, do you make more power with more boost though? I didn't know if blocking it off would give too much boost and be less efficient, but it's good to know you can't overboost it on stock fuel.

Well, what my problem is that when it locks up , my boost is gone ! It takes a few seconds to build back , of course from lower RPMs , but it sounds like it exhausts out all of the boost. It sounds like my boost is still going through the exhaust for a few seconds after . Really seems like a long time to start boosting back ! When it does start getting boost back, it really starts taking off ! Haven't found any leaks, boost escaping, nothing. BUT, when you need the power in lower gears, it gos from whistle to blow ,loud blow through the exhaust but will build good power still !!!
