Wanna advance timing on 12v
Hi all,
I'm thinking seriously about advancing the timing on my '98 12v. I need to know two things-how to do it, and what a safe value is to set it at. I'm not concerned with the diesel clatter, I just need to make sure I don't go too far and beat the bearings out of it.

16° is good for your '98

I should have added that for most people it's cheaper to have someone else bump the timing than it is to buy the tools. Problem is finding someone to do it as most dealers and Cummins shops won't advance the timing beyond stock as it's against pollution laws. Doesn't hurt to ask though, expect to pay around $200
