Ve Pump reseal...truck won't start.
Ve Pump reseal...truck won't start.
So I resealed the VE pump on my 89 CTD. Installed it last week and have been unable to get the truck running. I also upgraded to a piston lift pump, and a 2nd gen fuel heater.
I have posted this issue over in the first Gen section, but thought I'd try here as well and see if I can get this figure out.
Here's what I've done, and found so far.
I did my KDP at the same time so I cranked the motor over until all marks were lined up properly, then locked the pump. Resealed the pump, and installed and hooked everything back up. So timing shouldn't be an issue. Truck will crank and seems to stumble, but won't fire.
-I have checked the new piston lift pump for fuel delivery...Yes
-I have tried to run the VE pump off a can of clean diesel...no change
-I then tried a hose and funnel straight into the VE pump..still no change
-Pulled the plunger out of the FSS...no change
-Popped the top off and checked to make sure the ball connection was in the control collar..yes and sliding properly.
-I don't seem to get a regular, and forceful spray at the injectors when I bleed the system.
-I have blown back through the injector lines to make sure they were clear of debris and foreign matter.
-I don't believe I have any air leaks in the system now.
-One thing I did notice tonight, and I came across this while searching Youtube for ideas and help. When I had the top off check the control collar movement I noticed that the little pin, under the top hat and spring, seemed like it should have a spring over it as well. Mine seemed to be missing, or fell into the body.
Here's a pic of what I'm talking about...it's missing in this pic as well, so I don't know if it's supposed to be there or not?

Now if I am supposed to have a spring on there, and it did fall into the body and got chewed up, I'm guessing I could have some serious damage inside.
Any and all advice and suggestions will be appreciated and considered.
