Pump reseal, truck won't start

I resealed the VE on my '89 today. Everything went ok, although this was my first time taking a pump apart. I followed the pictures in the sticky, everything went exactly as he described it would go. I just got everything put back together and now the truck will not start.

After I resealed and installed the pump, I bled the lines twice. Fuel is coming out of the injectors when I crank the motor and crack a line open one at a time, but it will not fire when i close them up. The pump was indexed before I removed it, I lined it up where the marks are.

I'm not sure what direction to take next. I do have a factory service manual from '93. If there is fuel coming out of the injectors should I try to reset the timing?

The truck ran fine before, just leaking really bad, and I didn't want to drive it leaking so badly.

Thanks in advance for any direction you can point me in
~Dave

U could be your throttle shaft is out of position or your manual kill lever is out of position. Did you index these as well?

Why would pulling that plug matter ? Just curious as I am just finishing mine up and I removed that plug.

How do you feel about the woodruff key going back on correctly? I'm on my third key right now while installing a reman pump. They are a pain to get on correctly I hear and now know. I had fuel at my injectors as well but not an adequate amount to start. So if you feel that the gear didn't meet with the shaft 100% then that might be your problem.

Thanks for the replies, you guys.

I did index the throttle and kill lever, also the pump went back on easily enough, the woodruff seemed to be ok when I did it.

I didn't pull the plug in the center of the head, tho.

it is kind of a leap of faith, because you cannot see the key as you are putting the shaft through the gear and it can be pushed off. It can do some serious damage or it can harmlessly fall into the pan. When the engine is on TDC compression stroke, on 1 (I think), the key is at the 6 o'clock position and a lot more prone to this. It is tough to tell if the key is in there or not, until you go to start it...Mark

The woodruff key on my pump was pretty snug... it could move, but would take a bit of prying to remove it. I'm confident it was seated in the groove. Maybe replacement pump the shaft is looser, I don't know.

Hows it going, Maybe!

Real good, I am almost 100% after knee surgery. I am itching to get back down to Mexico and start building my new house. You need to come on down and make sure I'm doing it right . How about yourself? Those dastardly cats came up here and put a woopin' on the Devils. Hot time in the Old Pueblo I bet ..Mark

I haven't been to Mexico in a couple years, been so busy.

I wanted to confirm the voltage on the wires that connect the KSB and fuel solenoid.

One is 12 volts, the other is (approx) 2. Is that right?

Yes it is... the first pump i rebuilt i pulled that little plug not knowing under that plug is a crush seal. put the pump on and i could only start the truck with ether, took it off and went to the pump shop and told them what i did and was informed that the crush seal had an effect on fuel flow, it would run but not start on its own..was also told if i did any more pumps that itd save a lot of trouble to leave the plug alone... if it dont leak dont mess with it
