Valve adjustment = gas mileage

Ok, guys. Me and a friend just adjusted the valves on my truck. After doing so, my MPG dropped by 1.5-2. Is something gone wrong, or could it just be coencidence that my fuel filter is dirty?

I would check them again for tight valves, should not drop if adjusted properly.
