turbo bad?? symtems...
Today I took a 350 mile trip empty. When I got home and parked I noticed some "oil" or wet spots all over my rear bumper and tailgate. There is also a pretty large fresh oil spot that leaked out under my engine. And there is some "oil" spots on my passenger inner fender and pass side firewall. There doesn't seem to be any oil on the turbo but this has to be coming from somewhere. The oil inlet hose is dry as a bone. What do I need to check? Or should I just go buy a new turbo?
Don't buy anything yet. If they fail, the oil goes into the intake or the exhaust side past the seals, not typically externally. If you pull the intlet off of the turbo see if you can see any oil. Then you can take off the band clamp on the turbo compressor outlet for the elbow and pop it off to see if you have oil in there as well. Grab the shaft and see how much play you have in the turbo. A little up and down/side to side is OK. You should not be able to move it in and out any noticable amount.
I would check the oil filter first just to be sure its not leaking.. Then the turbo oil return line. It has a rubber section to connect to the block and it might be spittin a bit.
Might also be a front seal on the crank or the KDP put a dent in the gear case.
Look at the gear case right by the water pump pully and up by the crank sensor. It should be dry there.. If not, then we have some other issues.

Also.... I read in some post something about having " dowel pinned" , it was a post similar to mine with as the guy ststed" more oil puddle than normal" after he parked. I notice a few oil spots on my concrete where I park and I assumed there was a small drip somewhere. It usually goes thru about a quart between changes. I filled it up before my trip yesterday and now I am almost 2 quarts low. That has never happened before. I am going to check the turbo play etc. suggested in the reply and the front seal.
To have oil on the rear bumper, it sounds like it has to be a pretty healthy leak
Also, are you sure its motor oil and not trans oil. I had both of my auto trucks rot out the oil cooler line right below oil to water cooler. It does a nice job lubricatiing the underneath of my trucks. I also had a line blow completely on the driver side a 1/4 mile from the house. When I got out I was wondering why the door handle had oil all over it. Between the road and the truck it sprayed 2 gals of trans fluid out.
Where are the oil spots on the ground in relation to the truck, is it in the front or towards the passenger side behind the axle.
Check the trans cooler lines they could be the culpret.
Good luck finding it.

I found the problem.... all 4 nuts are missing and 1 stud for the injector pump. Oil coming out stud hole. Where is nearest cummins dealer near South Bend Indiana? Or does anyone know what thread size these are?

Who installed your new pump??? Sounds like they forgot some pretty important parts!!!!
Those components will be metric thread, I just have to see if my Haynes has it, probably not.
The torque on the mounting studs is 18 ft-lbs.
