Truck sputters in the morning

I've got a 98 12v. In the morning or after sittin for a extended period of time. In second gear right before 2000 rpms, It will studder and puff white smoke. It just does it once and then Its back to normal. Do you think it could be air in the fuel lines or what. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Mine does it too and has since the day I got it...

I've learned to accept it, but maybe someone here knows the answer...

I'm assuming you have a 5 speed?

My guess is that the head is still cold and can't burn the fuel until it gets to temp.

I'd put my $$$ on a small leak in the fuel return lines letting a bit of air in.
