4k installed but it sputters?

Okay well i put the 4k gsk and once it was all together i took it for a run and got into it and easily rolled the tach. But once i parked the truck and then went back out to go home. Well 3 miles from home i jump on it and once i hit 32oo it sputters and it dosent seem to have the same amount of jump as it did when i first drove it tonight. What gives. I need help because i plan to fix it tomorrow.

Possibly may have slipped the timing back a little. I would check you timing. If you want power over 3k you will need at least 19* to run up on top.

But i thought that i only could time mine to a max of 16 with my mods. But it also only seems to do it real bad when it is cold so could this still be the problem.

DPS,

I am also curious as well.........

My understanding is that the smaller inline injection pumps can be timed higher.......17 to in the 20's w/o major risk of blowing the head gasket, but that with the 215 injection pump over 17 and cylinder pressures are too high. Could you please clarify what is needed to safely run 19 degrees of timing with the 4kgsk? Studs, o-ringed, etc.? Thanks.

i ran 20 degrees with a 215 pump for a little over 10k miles, 268k total.the headgasket was fine at 468 rwhp, then i put in a bunch more fuel down low. it didn't last 5 miles. i had the fuel held back pretty good at 468 hp, it looked almost like a stock truck when i put it on the dyno.

gunracer,

What were your other mods when you were running 20 degrees of timing, and what did you do to add the fuel down low? I have ARP headstuds right now, still on the stock HG at 150K, 370's, 100 plate, everything full forward, and the 4kgsk. Should I be able to run 20 degrees?

Rick
mine seems to pull slowly up there

but it will rev to 4K and fuel hard up to about 3600 before it really heads back downhill. I have stock timing i believe. i cannot justify driving 6 hours plus to get it timed if im not on a dual purpose or more trip so to say.

What turbo were u running mike?

i run the stock turbo with the banks 14cm exhaust housing, and at WOT, the EGTS are sky high and racing with the tach, truck pulls hard, but it smokes quite a bit. I know i need a better turbo. just curious on ur setup
