transmission rebuild / torque convertor info

Ive got a 95 that was pretty underpowered when I got it stock. I added a bunch of mods and it pulls really well when im up high in RPM. When Im at lower RPM I get really bad power. Im guessing what Im experiencing is low coupling forces inside the TC (?). If the TC isnt coupling well at lower RPM its killing my city fuel economy. Im getting about 10-12mpg which isnt so hot.
The truck pulls really well with the TCC engaged so thats what makes me guess its the lower speeds on the TC thats the problem.
Can anyone recommend a convertor that couples better at lower speeds? How is the DTT, since Im looking into a complete DTT setup anyhow.
Id be doing a complete DTT build with the VB, oversized drum, billet input shaft and all the goodies.

You can't go wrong with any of the big tranny companies. Read, read, and then read some more. Note that everyone will have an opinion as to who's company is best - but in the end it's your call. Also, give Scott a call at MassDiesel 800-477-6127. He's a DTT installer and may have a truck (or know of one that's close by) for you to ride in...

yeah mass diesel is who did the timing on my truck a couple weeks ago. We talked a bit about transmission options but I didnt know I could have asked for a ride in a comparable truck to get an idea of what the transmission does for performance.
Id recommend them to anyone in the walpole, MA area. He seems really knowlegeable about the trucks.
A DTT build-up isnt cheap.. its like 5200$ for a complete install. I want to make really really sure this is what I need to cure the low end power / fuel economy problems before I spend that much $$$.

I have a truck that has 17deg timing, 215 injectors( thin washers) 3 k gov kit, and the gov arm adjusted, 10 plate all the way forward, afc housing all the way forward, the truck use to get 16 or so miles to gallon when stock with 3.54 gears and a automatic. Now with the timing and injectors I can get over 20.
My transmission is stock, the truck has 128k or so on it. In fluid coupling the power is poor as expected, in lockup in 3 or 4 the power is ok to 3k or a little more. I dont understand your poor mileage, but I am not a hard driver.
Good luck on who ever you choose. JimK

Is your driving mostly city or highway? What year is your truck?
Wish I knew what was going on in there. Its got to be either clogged injectors, a mis-calibrated pump or the transmission at this point. If I could find some OEM injectors with low mileage Id install them.. otherwise Im looking for a good aftermarket setup.
How many miles do you have on the transmission since you put in all the mods?

The truck is a 95. It has 3.54 gears. Stock transmission. 128 K miles on the truck. Mostly highway. I dont care to drive in city unless I have to. Timing and injectors helped my mileage, good luck Jim

Deezle1,

There's a BUNCH of us up here. We get together quite often - Most of the guys are TDR members and that's where most of the "what's happening" posts are placed.
