Transmission problems

So earlier in the year we switched the transmission fluid out for Royal Purple synthetic fluid and all summer long it worked great. How ever now that winter has come the truck is hard to get into 1st and 2nd from neutral. And 1-3 gear changes even after driving for hours it hangs for a second before going all the way into gear.
So either the fluid just never gets warmed up in the winter or the synchros are starting to fail. What a pain lol

That's exactly why I don't fool around and only use Castrol Syntorque.
I know it's a little more expensive but it's not like the tranny oil needs to be changed all that often. It's synthetic also.
I like Royal Purple though, use it in all my differentials and farm equipment gear boxes.

It's still a baby

Use the specified fluid. I fixed mine last summer (still had the original 5th gear/nut combo and bought the upgraded nut then TIG/welded it in place). I've changed the fluid every 100K and it shifts and looks great. The spec'd fluid has some proprietary stuff in it to keep everything working like it should. It isn't cheap but wait until you get the bill for a rebuild or buy the special tools to do it yourself. It is cheap insurance for a really great truck.

they are referring to an NV4500, no convertor to worry about.

i agree with infidel, use Castrol Syntorque, there is a good reason that its specified in the first place, the cost isnt that much when you think about how often you will need to change it and the cost of a new trans if the worst happens
