Transmission Problems

Just to start off, my truck is an auto, and recently if i put it into drive the transmission will shift into 4th at about 20mph and will almost stall the truck, and the only way i can get it out of that gear is to shift it into 2nd, this problem does not happen if i leave it in 2nd while driving around the city, but the second i shift into drive all hell breaks loose. Does this sound like a full transmission problem or something to do with the torque converter?

Sounds to me like the torque converter is locking and then not unlocking. The valve body wont allow it to be locked in Manual 1st, or 2nd, but it does allow it to lock in 2-4th gears in the "drive" position, so Id say for some reason it is just locking really early and not releasing... I dont know what would cause that though.

buy a Goerend tranny....lol well what you can do is call Dave or e-mail him and explain your situation... you might be able to get away with just putting a valve body in it but if i were you i'd do the converter too... or just bite the bullett and replace the whole tranny.... i love mine.....

Thank god i work at a dealership, a ford one though, I will have one of my buddies pull off the tranny pan and check the valve body if possible. I wish i had the money for a whole new tranny, but at this point that isn't even close to an option. Thanks for the info!
