I have a 1994 3500 4x4 with a cummins and the transmission gave up the race! Will a transmission from a 1996 2500 4x4 with a v-10 in it match up? Do I need a different TC for the diesel? The 96 has 140 000 miles - is it worth taking a chance on it?

Need to make sure its an RH model like yours, I think in 96 they may have had RE and RH models. RE uses computer to regulate pressures and your RH is just mechanical governor in the trans.

Other then that, yes torque converter would be in your interest to change, along with probably a shift kit for a diesel to get pressures up and and get shift points back down for diesel as well.

 

'94 and '95 used the 47 RH.
'96 and up 12Vs used the 47 RE.

I don't think the 47 RE will end up helping you out, as Gorms said, it is Computer controlled.
