Transmission

Last night heading home from a buddies house when I came to a stop my truck started to lurch and then stalled. I thought this was a weird anomaly and started it and continued. This has continued today. I have a suspicion that its the torque converter, what do you guys think? And what am I looking at cost wise to replace it. Thanks in advance.

I'm no tech but it sounds like the converter is staying locked up when you come to a stop. Does it start chugging and lurching at around 15 with o/d off and 35 with o/d on? If so the converter itself may be fine. The computer sends a ground to the torque converter clutch when conditions are right for a lockup. If this is infact the converter staying locked up you could have a simple wiring issue...like when they mystery switch is left on.

Other, more knowledgeable folks will hopefully chime in...could a stuck solenoid cause this too? Just don't get scammed into a whole converter or tranny if there's some minor issue!

mine does this too. It usually is when I am on a slight hill and I stop. The converter seems to loose its coupling effect. I thought it was low fluid so I would check that first. But mine has done this on flat ground too. Good luck and if it is a TC, then it probably is time for both of us to spend some big bucks to get a new one.

not sure how good and long lasting the grounding is on a dodge but grounding is a quick as easy fix that doesn't cost you dime except some time. Grab a wire brush, some wrenchs, and a bottle of anti-ox paste and have at it.

If it stalled just at a stop then here is a good chance the converter is remaining locked. Ever try bringing a stick shift to a stop while in gear and not having the clutch pressed in? That is what seems to be a similar condition here... Hopefully its just grounds.
