Trans rebuild advice.

Looks like I may have to rebuild my auto transmission. Any advice as to who makes the best and most reliable kit? I do NOT want to do this again!

DTT is good stuff, but folks here also recommend Dave Goerend's transmissions. You can buy one from him and ship your core back. Or you can buy a kit from either vendor I think. Personally Id buy a pre-built transmission for the warranty.

Have you done a search and read most of the the posts regarding transmission rebuilds? It seems that most of the DIY rebuilds must be done more than once. You will find post after post of guys having their tranny out multiple times until they get it right, or finally swap in the right stuff. To get it right the first time you must have either great skill or great luck. Better to pay a little more and get an off-the-shelf complete unit, shop built and ENGINEERED and TESTED for the HP you are running. Even then the installation with linkage adjustment is critical for correct shifting.

Edit: When you do a search, "transmission rebuild" is only half of it. Have a look at "no lockup", "no overdrive", "shift points", "torque converter", etc.
