Trans interchangability

The auto transmissions from a 96 2500 ctd 4x4 and a 98 2500 4x4 ctd are the same right?

I just need to make sure before buying this trans tomorrow.

It's a trans from a 98, I'll be putting it in my 96

Sorry for the lame question, I tried searching, I'm not the greatest searcher, plus I'm at work and have limited time.

Thanks

Close to the switch, sorry don't know for sure, I do know the trans filter is different. I do know you can make it work, something about the trans temp circuit needing a resistor.

For some reason I thought the switch was tho 2000 MY.

Both trannys are 47RH and will swap right over.
Only thing that might be different is the electrical connector.

I believe they may both be 47RE. In '96 the move to electronic governers was made and both should have internal thermistors located inside of the pressure sensor. Someone corrected me on this yesterday, so I had to read up on it.

Your the man infidel

How can I switch over the electrical connector?
Will I need the connector from the 98 truck? Or is there some mod that can be done?
