I want to check my cooler flow because my trans seems to be getting hot. Can someone tell me, does the fluid leave the transmission and go through the heatexchanger under the turbo first? Where is the check ball located that prevents back flow when not in use. Thanks for any help !!

 

As far as I know, that is correct. Transmission -> Heat Exchanger -> Cooler -> Transmission. Some tranny's have the check valve in the valve body and others have it in the cooler line. .....and some have it removed....
That's all I know. Maybe someone else can add??

 

Thanks ! I need to do a flow check and make sure the cooler isn't plugged and I wasn't sure which line to disconnect. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

 

The check ball was added stock in '96.
Before that it was only installed if the new truck owner complained about the truck not moving right away.
The check ball is in the line that attaches to the heat exchanger from the tranny.

If the information I have received so far is correct, the flow LEAVES the transmission goes through the heat exchanger under the turbo then, if the above is true, on MY 96 it goes through the check ball and in the top of the AUX cooler up front and back to the transmission. Is this correct? Thanks again for all your replies.

The check ball is in the hose before (inlet) the heat exchanger.
