Tranny Questions.....

Yes I know it has been posted before about a Auto to a 5 speed swap, But im a lil to impatient to go through and look until i find it. I suppose i can tell a short story to explain myself.

I pulled a trailer down to Missouri to get a ford f-350 and well truck did fine down their but after we loaded the truck on i knew what i was getting myself into with stock tranny with slight mod's, well i got tired half way back to South Dakota (truck was running great) and told an idiot buddy to take over for a little bit, i told him how to drive the truck without being to hard on the truck or the tranny, well i fell asleep for about 15-20 min's and woke up to my truck hitting about 2750 rpms pyro gauge pegged at 1500 and 32LBS of boost, O/D light flashing going up a steep hill truck losing speed quickly and the ****ing morons foot flat to the floor (i bout killed the SOB i didnt know he couldnt pull a trailer worth **** ) well i spoke my mind to him and took over and yeah since then tranny wont shift right and tc now slips sometimes.

A few questions, would it be cheaper to build up my auto tranny opposed to putting in a 5 speed? what all would i need to change to go from auto to a 5 speed if i decide to actually put a 5 speed in (not a big auto fan, love jamming them gears) O and one last question (fluid does smell burnt and is kinda dark colored) how bad do you think my tranny is ?

so anything would probably help

How many miles on trans ?
Has he offered to donate any dollars to the repair / swap ?
You may want to invite him to help .
Do a fluid flush [ changing all trans fluid ] filter , adjust bands , see whats in pan .
For the swap , it could be cheaper , are you going to do the work ?
Having a complete donor truck there for all the parts is the way to go .

Ok there is 260K on the tranny, and when i can get the truck back into a friends shop ill take a closer look at what other damages has been done, and no he avoids me now but i also have a buddy who would love to help my truck become a 5 speed and yes if i know what all i need and what to change i can and will do the swap,
But what all do i need to change if i pursue on putting the 5 speed in, diffrent flywheel? bell housing what ?

The auto has a flex plate , the manual has the flywheel .
The hole peddle assembly under dash , mount the master for clutch .
I do not have a list to give you thats why having a doner truck there side by side , stuff as little as a bolt or screw , making many trips .
It could take days or weeks if you get what you think you need then hunt & peck for everything .
I want to up grade my auto [ I wanted a stick , but it was a good truck ] with the hassle of doing the change & only having the 1 truck & nothing els to drive , building the auto is a lot easier , except the money that it cost to do it right .

Fix your tranny and then trade for a manual vehicle. The list goes on and on for a changover, without complete correct donor unit. There is always some little "issue" that was uninticipated that will ruin your day, and sometimes your whole week. JMHO

with 260,000 miles on the tranny your buddy did you a favor, i'd be surprised if that is the original trans.
