Tranny I Think

I have a 97 dodge 5.9L diesel. The problem i am having is that when i try to go up an incline (doesnt have to be real steep)from a slow speed my truck barely will go up with just hauling about 7700#..I had this problem for awhile because i almost didnt make it up a hill with just my 4 wheeler in the back of it...i had the tranny rebuilt and still having the same problem..they are telling me that it is a electrical problem..but this is what i took it to them in the first place when they told me it needed a tranny..any one have any ideas.

When you say you just barely make it up a hill, can we assume you do not mean a power issue, rather the engine is free-revving?

Do the shifts happen OK when not loaded going up the same hill?

Does it happen with the OD turned off?

the engine will rev up ..i only got it to about 2200 to 2500 red line on my truck is 3000..dont know alot about the diesel but wanting to know more...it seems to shift find going up that same hill empty ...but before i put the new tranny in it did it with just my 4 wheeler in it on the same hill ...and started to over heat too ..and yes it did it with the od off..i tried to manuel shift it but didnt seem to help...my best way of explaining it is like if you had a manuel trans..and you ride the clutch the motor revs but just doesnt go

These transmissions have no lockup in 1st or 2nd. mine does the same. It's not fun. With the OD off, you will notice it will shift 1st, 2nd then at 37mph 3rd lockup.

so, with no lockup in 2nd you can't get to 37mph. That may be a good thing for your tranny.
