Too close for comfort?
I had to re-route some heater hose which now curves within an inch of the down pipe but only a short section is within that inch. I'm a bit worried about the hose getting too hot and melting. Comments?

Take a lighter to the side of a paper cup that is full with water... believe it or not you can hold it there till the water boils and the cup still wont start on fire. Same concept with the heater hose, it should be impossible for the exhaust to actually melt it. I would still be throwing some heat wrap on it but I wouldnt worry too much about it after that.

For even more fun you can hard boil an egg in the same paper cup!! The only problem I can see with the heater hose is the heat will probably cause it to break down prematuraliy and eventually spring a leak.

Yes, I've done the paper cup trip as a kid. It works. But, the paper cup is not in a pressurized system either. Personally, AI like the tip of wrapping the down pipe. Another option is to replace that section of heater hose with metal and wrap the metal.
Sitting exposed to the heat like that will eventually cause the hose to fail. Something should be done, at least for piece of mind. KD
