Timing?? Whos running it where?
Hey guys i see little talk about where everyone runs there timing for comp. use and or high hp street use. Several great sources say in the 20-24* area, and then others say over 26 is a must for any real power over at another forum. Just curious what all is really gained by all the increased timing. In my gasser lots of timing really boost the bottom end take off with expense of laying over on the big end and more heat and great chances of detination if the proper octan isnt utilized. Would someone go over the diesels nature of increased timing? Mainly wondering of EGT's, im set now at 17* and plan to run this setting for the first trip to the track hopfully this comming weekend. Than i will play some with the timing, also i didnt go the fire ring direction, but i did just replace the HG with the marine version at .20" thicker 'accually measured .40" thicker though' and also installed the latest version of the ARP 12mm studs and had to machine the rocker pedastels. I will be running the boost in the range of 45-60 lbs. somewhere in that range hopfully, im trying to get it down so that i can read it on my 0-60 guage. The only 3 times ive stomped it, it just buried the needle, ive since replaced the brass elboe w/ a reg. style 1/8" to 1/4" barb fitting from the high boost version that came on the turbo [very small hole in it to restrict the amount of air to get to the GW acuator].
Where is the limit you would think to run on the marine gasket and 12mm studs??
