Timing tools
Timing tools
I'm getting ready to order a new IP for my '94, thinking about getting the 215HP. I need a barring tool for sure, but would also like a full timing kit. Who sells the most affordable timing set for these engines? What's the most accurate method? What would you suggest for timing on a 215 pump in a 94 w/stock tranny and mods I have? Thanks in advance. Dave

Fair price?
Also, anyone ever buy one of these guys' pumps? Free shipping and no core charge if returned in 30 days.. IP and timing tools for under a grand, I can live with that..

Kit is missing a DV socket, which is essential and barring tool, which makes the job much easier.
More I think about it it's not a good deal at at all.

A dial indicator for setting up gears works too, I had to convert from inches to mm but thats no biggy.
You could get a little half *** and go with a 1/2'' drive ratchet and socket on the damper/balancer, even more half *** and use a set of good vice grips for the DV on #1, but its pretty tight, and you will probably mar the teeth... that one is not recommended by me for sure, but it has been done, and it worked.

You can make your own kit. Drain plug out of the oil pan fits in the barrel assembly. Drill the middle out so a 1" dial will fit in. Drill and tap it for a set screw. Still need a DV socket, but thats a lot cheaper. Buy a cheap steering wheel puller. I had my kit made up for less than $60. Thats excluding the barring gear tool, since you have to buy that regardless of kit.
A timing light is more accurate than the dial, and will work on any pump. If you don't have a chart for the pump, or something is wrong, you're dead in the water. FWIW, there is a two degree difference between pulses from the pump to the injector.
