timing pin
timing pin
if the timing pin engages does that mean that engine is at btdc no matter which way you turn engine. i have no barring tool so i just turn alternater pully turning engine backwards.
It is TDC on cyl 1, either valve over lap or compression firing. When you check or set timing you are supposed to turn the eng in normal engine rotation to keep the gear back lash tight. Try useing a 15 mm socket and ratchet on the front pulley bolts. It's a pain but will work.
When the timing pin goes in it is TDC on number 1 compression stroke. This is because the pin goes into the cam, not the crank. If it went into the crank there would be a possibility of being 180 degrees out.
Remove backlash as advised above.
