throttle stuck
throttle stuck
I was going down the Florida turnpike Saturday and turned my cruise control off as I was coming up to the exit I was looking for. Well, the truck just kept running like the cruise was still on. I managed to stop on the exit shoulder and started checking the cables that run from the cruise to the throttle lever. Everything checked out but my throttle still wouldn't come back to idle. I finally discovered that the throttle rod (long rod with a z shape) had rolled over and the z portion was sticking up against the intake manifold which prevented it from returning to idle when the pedal was let up. It did the same thing one more time before I got back home in Lake City Fl. Could the little socket joints be worn and causing this as I see nothing else ?
thanks guys-
thanks guys-
It is quite a common problem.
# Worn throttle rod parts - photos parts diagram
* Symptoms: Throttle binding, high idle speed, loss of throttle control
* Temporary fix: Use tape or a tie-wrap to keep the socket on the ballstud.

Lock nuts
Actually it was the lock nuts loose. Even with them tightened up it still rolled way to easy to I went ahead and replaced the rod with ends (dodge doesn't sell just the ends now) and everything is hunky dorey !!
Thanks guys--- you came thru again

Recalls are free no matter how old the vehicle is or how many owners it's had

This just reminded me to check for the recall on my 1997's throttle. It wasen't done and the dealership has the parts to do it tommorrow. They told me there would be no charge.
