Stuck ujoint
Stuck ujoint
Sorry about the crappy picture, all I had was my cell phone.
I had to pull the axle shaft out (passanger side) to get the joints off, is there anything special I need to worry about when I put it back in? Do i need to replace the seal on the far passanger end of the axle disconect?
Can I pull the driver side out as well or should I figure out how to get the press on there with the shaft in the truck?
Now for the really fun part. What I am holding in my hand is the top of the end cap. It shot off at around 500mph leaving the bulk of the cap still suck in the axle half. Funfun. I think i am going to take a die grinder to it to split it then try and peel it off the inside of the shaft. Any better ideas?
The other cap in the picture is from the far side of that same joint. The needle berrings where gone. No idea how they got out, but I am sure that had _nothing_ to do with the failure of the joint.

If you have the time, try to soak it in something like PB Blaster or ?, then take a socket start the beating process. I have done it that way, but if all fails, the die grinder will work as a last resort. Good luck.
Well, I guess that you are one step in front of me, not the first time that has happened
. Have a beer or three, and start step 2 if you haven't done it already. Looks like nobody else has chimed in.
You definitely have the telltale marks on your hand that you work on trucks!

Well, i got that stupid ujoint end out. Turns out a correct sized socket and the air chisel will do the trick. The socket didnt really survive, added it to the pile of about 7 sockets that need to go back to sears that have been wrecked in this project. Ever notice impact sockets dont tend to break so much as blow up when they fail :-)
Still need to figure out if there are any gotchas in putting the axle shafts back in.
Btw, my kingdom for a sand blast chamber. I need to find some good way to clean all this crap before putting it all back together.
